"Forqué estrenó' Ay Carmela' en 1987 y, dijo, 'es una suerte' volver a hacer este personaje, en esta ocasión de la mano de Miguel Narros, un director que 'lo sabe todo del teatro' y tiene 'un gran sentido del humor' (...) La obra, explicó, es diferente a la película que mucha gente conoce, porque abarca 'otros mundos', por ejemplo el de la muerte, de hecho, se desarrolla como un flash back a partir de los recuerdos de Paulino (Santiago Ramos) y de las visitas del espíritu de Carmela, que ha sido fusilada. Se trata de dos actores de revista que son hechos prisioneros por los franquistas, que les obligan a hacer una burla de los milicianos que van a ser fusilados, pero Carmela, que es una mujer 'generosa y compasiva' siente una 'gran angustia' que le lleva a cambiar la parodia y ser ajusticiada por ello".
