Evan Wyler es un joven escritor que comienza a saborear las mieles del éxito gracias a su primera novela. A pesar de los reconocimientos y las críticas favorables, los beneficios económicos aún se hacen esperar. Después de su aparición en la portada de una revista, el prometedor autor capta la atención de Alexa Vel Deveraux, una atractiva mujer instalada en la vorágine de la fama y el derroche. La misteriosa Alexa busca el encuentro con Evan, a quien propone escribir un guión cinematográfico sobre su vida que le reportara unas extraordinarias ganancias.
