A Gil Vicente sólo lo conocemos por sus textos dramáticos, que son los más innovadores de la Cristiandad entre 1502 y 1536. Los escribió y representó en las fastuosas cortes de Manuel I y João III de Portugal, durante la época de máxima expansión política y mercantil de aquel imperio por Africa, el Brasil y la India. En este contexto, su teatro se convirtió en una mercancía cultural y, sobre todo, en un laboratorio para la acción y el discurso tal como los entendían Aristóteles y Hanna Arendt. Las farsas de Gil Vicente aquí reunidas por primera vez en español son las más sugerentes por su criticismo y por el diálogo que son capaces de entablar con un lector actual, salvada la distancia lingüística e histórica mediante las notas y la introducción. |
