"Es éste un libro singular por muchos conceptos. Contiene nueve comentarios, escritos ex profeso para él, de otras tantas obras de teatro, entre las que figuran una ópera de Monteverdi y un espectáculo de Lepage. Para calibrar su interés basta con enumerarlas: 'Muerte de un viajante', 'Equus', 'Luces de bohemia', 'Rosencrantz y Guildenstern han muerto', 'El príncipe constante', 'Le Polygraphe/Polygraph', 'La coronación de Popea', 'Ubú rey' y 'Ni pobre ni rico, sino todo lo contrario'. Insólito de verdad, además de garantía de la cohesión del libro o antídoto de lo misceláneo y lo disperso, es que todos los comentarios se basen en un mismo método de análisis, el propuesto por José-Luis García Barrientos en 'Cómo se comenta una obra de teatro', que se resume al principio. Que el método presuma de ser congruente y sistemático -en estos tiempos- y se ponga al servicio del análisis de la dramaturgia, o sea, del estudio de las obras de teatro precisamente en cuanto obras de teatro, parece el colmo de lo inusitado".
