"La historia parte de una leyenda afrocubana de origen lucumi. La mitología africana tiene una leyenda de los jimaguas que vencen al Diablo, la traslación del pasaje bíblico de David que derriba al gigante filisteo de una pedrada en la frente. En 'Los Ibeyis' (1992) no solo está presente el rescate de un oddum, o leyenda de origen negro. La escritura de esta obra incluye, como un suculento ajiaco, ese plato nacional que lo mezcla todo, la gracia del choteo criollo, el aliento picaresco de la herencia española, los artificios del griot africano y la esencia del teatro vernáculo cubano: el bufo. Por cierto un bufo satírico, paródico y popular, no por el regreso al género, sino por la interpretación contemporánea y sintética en el lenguaje titiritero". (p. 29). |
