" [...] La obra está interpretada por la compañía del Teatro Nacional de Marsella-La Criée que dirige Benoit [...]. Benoit ha optado por seleccionar fragmentos de los tres actos que componen este texto, que cuenta la juventud del héroe Rodrigo Díaz de Vívar y la de Jimena Gómez, así como los demás personajes de la nobleza castellana de la Alta Edad Media. Escrita en 1618, la pieza de De Castro despertó el interés de Corneille, que la tradujo al francés y más le inspiró Le Cid.
