| Summary, etc | "En un libro titulado The Place of the Stage, Steven Mullaney asigna a la ubicación de los teatros isabelinos -tan parecidos en sus circunstancias físicas a los corrales de comedias de la España coetánea- un papel significativo en la determinación del tipo de obra producido por Shakespeare y sus contemporáneos. Los teatros todos se construyeron fuera de la ciudad, en las afueras de Londres llamadas "the Liberties" -las Libertades. Las Libertades eran "áreas anómalas y foros (inglés: arenas) de ambivalencia cultural, "abiertas a formas de significación más contradictorias, más extravagantes e incontinentes, que las que se permitían dentro de las puertas de la ciudad" (Mullaney, 31). Se trata de la zona de leproserías, patíbulos, hospitales, garitos, prostíbulos -y teatros. Según Mullaney, "los teatros populares [en las afueras de Londres] poseían, en virtud de su ubicación, el poder de ofender o escandalizar ['shock or scandalize']" (pág. 30)...".
