Summary, etc	"Los habitantes de Numancia tuvieron en Cervantes su cronista teatral y los de Fuenteovejuna, el suyo, en Lope de Vega. No lo encontraron, en cambio, los vecinos de Madrid que, el dos de mayo de 1808, se levantaron contra el ejército francés. No fue porque su gesta no mereciera ser recreada, pues algunos de los más grandes escritores y artistas lo hicieron. Goya, apenas tuvieron lugar los sucesos, en sus pinturas. Décadas después, Pérez-Galdós en la tercera entrega de Los episodios nacionales. Cuando con motivo de la celebración del segundo centenario de aquellos sucesos recibí el encargo de adaptar para la escena esta parte de la novela galdosiana, la curiosidad me empujó a buscar obras teatrales que abordaran el mismo asunto. ..."
