En: Early Music Vol. 37, núm. 1,Feb. 2009, p. 89Resumen: RESUMEN: In his pair of articles for the 1808 Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung, Christian Friedrich Michaelis (1770-18334) provides us with a glimpse of the priorities and concerns of clarinettists during an important period in the instrument´s development, its repertory and its players. Issues such as reed position, range, key systems, sizes of clarinets and problems with reeds conform to the concerns that preoccupied clarinet players throughout the 19 th century. It is intriguing to follow his many persuasive arguments. And even though he displays knowledge and ignorance in nearly equal proportions, it os heartwarming to feel such enthusiasm, concern and interest for his chose instrument.
