The process of setting a play begins when the scene designer's sketches are submitted to the producer, involves the planning, manufacture, use and maintenance of the scenary and properties, and ends when the play closes and the sets go to the warehouse. It is a process, each step of which is governed by a complex set of varying and limiting forces.
